See you Monday!
♥With Love,
Wendy Irene
Over the weekend we arrived in Idaho, and the movers came on Monday. Today our internet and phone were installed and now we are slowly manoeuvring our way through a sea of boxes. I look forward to returning to the blog next week. I hope you are doing well and that you have a fantastic end to your week! See you Monday! ♥With Love, Wendy Irene 6 Comments Sometimes the things that make us happy require very few words, if any, to explain them. Here are some of the reasons I love fall. Mums
I hope all of you are enjoying a lovely holiday weekend! My husband had a few extra days off so we are really enjoying the time together. We are hoping it will be a day of catching up on things around the house, mixed with some time to relax. My favorite holiday thing to do is to take a little extra time in the morning to slow down and sit quietly (at least try too) with a cup of coffee or tea. I also love to do a similar mid-afternoon break on holidays with some cuddle time on the couch with the family. I hope your day brings some serene happiness your way! Be back tomorrow J ♥ Wendy Irene Sunday I was fortunate to meet some great new people! Scott Young put together a meet-up in Vancouver, and 6 bloggers and/or entrepreneurs attended. My lovely friend Aly, who if you’ll please excuse me I have to plug here for a second because she is AWESOME!! Aly is a very talented Canadian artist and mompreneur who designs, creates, and sells handmade, unique pieces of jewelry and wearable art. Please check out her site! OK, enough gushing over the most amazing jewelry artist on the planet (and it’s a BIG planet!). J Not bad considering we spell jewelry differently. Who am I kidding? Spelling is not my talent; really I just do what spell check tells me! 8-P
After finding each other outside of Starbucks, which was bumpin we decided to walk over to The Urban Tea Merchant at 1070 West Georgia St. Vancouver. Even though going there wasn’t pre-planned I really liked it and would definitely go back. It worked out perfectly because without too much of a wait for being downtown we got a large table and could easily chat and hear one another. I would most definitely go back! Here is the group minus one L We didn’t think to take the picture until after one person left. You are going to see a whole bunch (meaning 6) new Wondrous Wednesday posts today on GLCH. Why Wondrous Wednesday posts today you might ask? Well, because Wondrous Wednesday is a creative routine I originally started in the group Photo Moms on Modern Mom a couple of months ago. I would like these posts to also be located directly on the GLCH website, and so today I am playing catch up. I hope you enjoy these imaginative escapes for the day. The regularly scheduled post will follow the Wondrous Wednesday backlog. Have a wonderful day! ♥Wendy Irene Today I have some very exciting news!!! You can find my guest post on Zen Family Habits! If you have a moment I’d love for you to check out this guest post, and the Malta Mama website. Where is your favorite place to go for Ice Cream? ![]() Hello there! How was your weekend? My weekend was mixed. We were fortunate to visit with great out of town friends. We had dinner in the park and wine at our place which was nice. Little Sister and Big Brother love having friends over! The weather in Vancouver has been very warm, beautiful, and sunny. Our house gets quite hot during these times. We don’t have AC, and most of the year it works out fine. It is just those few really warm weeks a year that make our hot house a little harder to enjoy. The kids and I were really looking forward to getting out of the house and spending time outdoors in the park. The thought of eating in our smouldering house was not appealing so we thought dinner in the park would be a nice alternative, and kid friendly. I ordered a veggie dog, along with a soda and my favorite onion rings! It is nice to splurge sometimes. Anyway, my veggie dog was smothered in all kinds of yucky sauce. Mustard, some kind of mayo, I’m not sure. I should have looked at the menu more closely but with little kids and a big wide open park it can be harder than you would think to pay attention to those details. Late into the night, I started to feel sick, very sick! The next day starting around 11am I could feel that I had a raging fever, terrible stomach pains, and all the usual that goes a long with a possible bad case of food poising. I couldn’t get the picture of that veggie dog out of my head. You know when your gut basically tells you what it was that didn’t agree with you. From 11am until 10am the next day I basically slept with mini periods of waking up, pooled in sweat from my fever and the fact that our house was so hot. I had the fan pointed right at me, and my husband brought cold cloths to place on my head. Waking up was horrible because I could feel all the more how much pain I was in. It reminded me of how important it is to be food safe, especially during these warm summer months. The food stand was 40 minutes behind on orders, and we had a large order for our group of 4 adults and 4 children. Who knows how long some of the food was sitting out in the heat? Being careful with your food especially while having outdoor picnics is completely worth any hassle it is not to feel how sick I did. There is no way to say for sure it was food poising, but I strongly believe it was. I was the only one sick, and it came on fast. Normally in our family more than one of us gets sick when something is going around. I’m not 100% recovered yet, although I am A LOT better than I was for those terrible 24 hours. My stomach is still very sensitive, and the heat hasn’t let up. I’m glad it was me and not my kids though. Fortunately I was the only one that ordered a veggie dog. Not only did this experience remind me of how important food safety is, it also reminded me that fast food taste so much better at home using better quality ingredients. I think that often now if we eat out. Hopefully this time it will stick with me. If I feel like splurging now and then and having a hamburger and onion rings, they always taste 1000% better made at home. Not only that, they are probably better for you too! Can you believe there are only 2 more weeks left in August?! What are you going to do to make the most of what’s left of your summer? Love your thoughts in the comments. Happy Weekend Everyone! Amber over at Strocel.com was so nice to except a guest post from me today while she is off celebrating her son’s 2nd birthday. I’d love for you to stop over and check it out! I lucked out with Amber being someone I find absolutely hilarious, that she accepted my quirky sense of humour post without running far, far away. The post is along the lines of laughing at life, making even the most mundane tasks that need to be done around the house more fun. In the guest post I was preparing to take out the recycling, again! In the process I wanted to create some humour in this task that needs to be done so regularly when you have a family. I hope you enjoy your weekend! Here is the link to the post: http://www.strocel.com/guest-post-on-minimizing/ In the past couple of days I saw two great ideas from fellow bloggers that I would love to share with you. The first idea I loved was from A Lot of Loves by Marilyn. Painting with Water I don’t know how long this idea has been around for, but who ever first thought of it as an activity for young children deserves a genius award! It is as simple as it sounds. All you need: A bucket of water A paintbrush for each child Big Brother is 4 and Little Sister is 1 ½ and for them this idea was as good as gold- seriously not exaggerating here! I sent them out on the deck with the $1 paintbrushes they got from Santa last year, and in case you are wondering the elves didn’t make these ones, Santa found them at Michael’s, along with their bucket of water. The kids painted for so long. Everything on our deck is newly painted from the chairs to the railing, the ground, and their very favorite spot to paint- the sliding glass door. Not being really on top of cleaning the outsides of the windows (or who I’m I kidding the insides too) I didn’t mind one bit. The biggest surprise after painting with water outside was they now constantly ask to go outside and paint with water all the time. Seriously all day! Umm...let me think about it...SURE go outside and paint with water to your heart’s content. Love, Love, LOVE the idea! Thanks for writing about it Marilyn! Idea #2 The second great idea I saw this week was from Tina at Carrots-N-Cake. My readers that have been with me for a while know how much I love my sorority sister’s blog. Oh yes I said it...I was in a sorority...try not to laugh too hard ;-) In fact some of the friends I made there have the most fantastic blogs! Tina is a food and healthy living blogger and her idea to help stay on track this summer was to: Skip the Extras If you splurge on good eats this summer enjoy it, but when possible skip the extra things that just add to the calories. The example she gave is if you eat a hamburger skip the cheese and the special sauce. Tina doesn’t believe in depriving yourself of any foods but instead believes in being mindful about your choices and achieving a healthy balance with food. Hopefully these 2 great ideas from a couple of wonderful bloggers are helpful to you this weekend! Question of the Day I was having trouble thinking of a question of the day for today and for some reason was recalling a conversation Big Brother had with his friends recently. The neighbourhood kids were outside playing when one of them goes inside and emerges with giant freezes for each of them. The boy said “Now don’t waste my Mom’s money by spilling these on the ground!” The second boy said “Yeah my Mom needs her money to buy toys for me” and Big Brother said “My Mom has 1 M-I-L-L-I-O-N dollars!” Although this may come as a shock to some of you I in fact do not have a million dollars. ;-) Oh the things kids say! I thought it would make a good question of the day though... If $1million was deposited in your bank account tomorrow what changes would you make in your life? What would stay the same? Please share in the comments. Have a great weekend, my friends! |
