Every year when I am taking down the holiday decorations I always look at the beautiful holiday cards I have received and think to myself I wish there was something I could do with them.  So many of them are meaningful and beautiful, getting rid of them can seem like a waste.

This year instead of throwing out your cards pick your favorites and reuse them!

Card Bookmarks
Picture
Cut bookmarks out of the cards.  I found cutting the front of the card into a 2 inch strip works well.  For an extra touch at the top of the bookmark punch a hole and tie with a ribbon.

These homemade bookmarks make great gifts as well, and are a good size for a stocking stuffer.  Most of the time the back of the card’s cover is white which makes it perfect to personalize with a special note.

If it is not a blank back try gluing white paper or card stock cut the same size to the back.  Then punch hole for ribbon and personalize.

This is a good reason to save the ribbons on your presents and reuse them as well for the bookmarks.

To make the bookmarks sturdier to better protect them from spills or little mouths that try to chew them, laminate the bookmarks with self adhesive laminate sheets found at most office supply stores.

Trying making this gift for someone using their family holiday photo card.

If you are giving the gift of a book add one of these personalized homemade bookmarks to the outside of the gift wrap.

This is a project you can do year round with birthday and other special cards you receive.

Recycling is great, but let’s not forget about the other R’s and reuse too!

HI Wendy
I love your idea about making bookmarks out of old Christmas cards. When I was a kindergarten teacher in Penticton we used to make placemats out of Christmas cards and then get them laminated. They were a great gift for the parents and they really were lovely. When I get back home to Canada I will show you one.
In the meantime we wish you a fabulous holiday season.
Much love and alhoa from Maui
Julie

Hey Wendy,
Hope it 'll work this time :)

I love the idea of reusing old X-Mas cards for making bookmarks and gift tags. What an awesome idea !
