Listening to my body seems to be the first thing to go when life gets busy. Whether I’m tired or hungry, the signs gently creep in, and then stare me down. When I don’t listen, I always loose.

Ignoring my body’s signals means I am not operating at optimum in any area of my life. My happiness wanes, and I get cranky. Granting myself permission to take a break, to take time off, to simply not do anything is essential to my well being.

Every month there is a day or two that requires my letting go of all that needs to be done, so that I have room to simply be. Even half a day here and there can work wonders for your soul.

There is always more work to be done, and there always will be. Take time to unwind and enjoy life, or else what is it all for?

Do you find your down time is essential to your overall well-being?

It is really important that we learn to listen to our bodies, in fact we do know at time; we just 'choose' not to listen to it and thought we can handle it. The result, our bodies have to do it the hard way to 'force' us to listen and to rest.

Only way to take permanent time off - make the kids do the dishes:)

This is great, Wendy!

I have to admit that I struggle with this one. I usually feel like I always have to be accomplishing something. Sitting down and just relaxing unproductively is something I rarely do, but absolutely believe is an important part of a well-balanced life.

This post has inspired me to take steps toward more well being by relaxing and simplifying more often! I can do it! :)

I battle to do this, as soon as I have some 'me time' I will be reminded of something I have to do. I really should make time.

Very true it is a choice! Why do you think we have such a hard time choosing to relax when we know our body or mind needs it?

@Ken-

You can do it! I have to work on not feeling guilty about it when I need some down time.

Hey Wendy,

It reminds me a line from the movie "Eat Pray Love" : "Sweetness of doing nothing."

thanks for the reminder.

I also thank you for your response regarding the vegan life style. Appreciated much!

HI Wendy
I think most of us struggle letting go of our daily chores around the house, taking care of kids and spouse and finding time to unwind without doing anything productive. I tried to just take couple of minutes off just to relax and not do anything but all kids of thoughts run through my mind : did I put those socks away? did I wash the coffee/tea cup? did I water that flower? and so on and my relaxing time is turning out to be more of a guilty time. Sometimes even when I lay in bed at night to read I find myself wondering if I turned the dishwasher on or dusted that shelf :(
I hope one day I'll sit down and enjoy the moment without thinking of house chores and what's for dinner.
