Wendy Irene Hi Friends, Happy Spring! We’re finally getting some sunshine this week, and it’s making me want to clean house- mind, body and home. I’m trying to eat cleaner and get rid of some addictive foods and beverages. It’s herbal tea for me this week. I think the sun is helping balance the moodiness of zero caffeine. The plants are starting to grow, and we’ve even got an indoor garden going. "I love spring anywhere, but if I could choose I would always greet it in a garden." ~ Ruth Stout I picked some mint from the garden to place on this smoothie. Makes it taste even better when it looks pretty! This morning I was making a couple batches of DIY All-Purpose cleaner for my home, and was thinking you might find the recipe useful too. Once in a while if I’ve been bad about cleaning (that never happens, right?!) I’ll use something stronger, but this works very well for all kinds of cleaning needs. I love that it’s easy and inexpensive to make. I spend enough on natural products as it is, so if something is fast to make that I can do myself I’d rather do that. Plus, that way you know exactly what you’re getting. Enjoy this time of sunshine and renewal! DIY All-Purpose CleanerYou will need:
Add all ingredients to the spray bottle. Make sure the lid and sprayer are closed tight, then shake to combine. It’s always a good idea to test the surface in a small area first to make sure the spray is safe, particularly when using essential oil. I like to use about 10 drops. Have a wonderful week, friends! Would love to see you this Sunday (4/29/2018) 9:00-10:30am for $5 Community Morning Flow Yoga at South Perry Yoga in Spokane, WA. There will be other classes we’re co-teaching coming up too. You can check the schedule here. With love and gratitude,
Wendy Irene

Hello lovelies,
There's something I want to ask you to do with me. I feel like if I commit to it here with you and you decide to join me I’ll be motivated to follow through and keep my word. This fall I am going to spend a lot of time working on deepening my yoga practice. The main reason I love yoga might not be the reason most people do. The reason I love yoga is for it's ability to move stuck energy. That's why I personally am devoted to it at this stage in my life. I also believe that to stay youthful as we age it's vital to keep nutrients moving up and down the spine and yoga is also great for that. One of the things I really need to work on is my hamstrings. They're pretty tight and always have required some work. I'd like to challenge you and myself everyday for the next month to do a 5 minute seated wide legged forward fold. It might be nice to play some pretty music and light a candle too if you want to make it even more soothing.
What's the energetic benefit of doing a seated forward fold? A lot of our emotions get stuck at the bottom of the spine so doing a forward fold is helpful in releasing emotions too, not just good for the stretching the ol' hamstrings.
If you feel stuff come up while you're doing a forward fold, let it out, celebrate and go ahead and cry if that's what your body calls for. It's all healing. It's all self love. When doing the forward fold you don't want to go all the way to your edge if you're holding it for a length of time. You want to be able to relax into it. Prop yourself up on as many pillows and blankets as you need. If having straight legs is too much of a stretch roll blankets up under your knees or use a pillow. Try propping your butt on a blanket or pillow to help lift you off the ground a little to fold forward better. Depending on your flexibility doing a forward fold doesn't even have to mean you actually fold forward if sitting up straight is enough of a stretch.
Although I do relax into it, you do want to focus on bending forward from your hips as much as possible as opposed to bending your back. When you get to the spot you're comfortable folding to from your hips then relax into the pose from there.
Will you join me, please? Let's energetically support one another. If you're in my family and have tight hamstrings you should definitely do this with me (Haha! No pressure). It's even more important for those of us who have trouble with it and beneficial for all. Let's officially start the challenge Friday September 1st - Saturday September 30th but feel free to join in anytime. Keep me posted on how it's going on social media! Sending lots of love, Wendy Irene |
