Have you ever thought about how powerful creativity can be?
It is incredibly freeing. It has the power to help you through tough times, and heighten good ones. Creativity comes in so many forms and has immense benefits for everyone, whether or not you consider yourself to be a ‘creative’ person.
The list of ways to express yourself through creativity goes on and on. There is writing, photography, drawing, painting, music, sewing, wood working, card making, furniture making, jewelry making, baking, cooking, design and decorating, building, home improvements, gardening, film, dance, scrapbooking... I could go on forever. One can even express their creativity through the cloths they put on each day. But have you ever really thought about what creativity means in your life?
Through the powers of creativity you can remember your favorite moments, and sort through the more challenging ones. Simply being aware of how powerful creativity is in your life can help you benefit from it more fully. The next time you are feeling stuck in your emotions consider taking time to express yourself through one of your favorite creative outlets. I think you’ll find it is one of the most useful tools you carry with you wherever you go.
In my life being a Mom is the most wonderful experience with infinite moments I want to remember. At the same time it is by far the most difficult. Writing is my creative outlet of choice in the present moment. There is no cleanup; I can do it for as long or as short of a time as I like and still feel like I accomplished something. It is a way for me to sort through my thoughts. It keeps me on track, reminds me of what is truly important, and allows me to figure out and evaluate the wife, Mom, person I want to be.
Oddly enough at the moment I can’t seem to find the words to fully express to you how much writing on a regular basis has meant to me in my life. It has helped me in so many ways. It fulfills a part of me that needs to get expressed, and in turn helps me improve all areas of my life. Writing has also given me the incredible opportunity to share, which I hold very dear to my heart.
To be honest there are many creative outlets I adore and would love to incorporate in my life. However, I don’t believe I need to do them all at once. Right now it seems just right to relish this time with my family, and be glad for the creative outlets I do have in my life.
Getting into a creative flow creates happiness and reduces stress. I can’t help but wonder how much giving children both time and an outlet to express themselves creatively could benefit their lives? Looking back I really liked school, and enjoyed learning most of the time. I understand why subjects taught in school are important for our children’s education. It has dawned on me though that often the arts and programs that best allow kids to express themselves creatively are frequently given the least amount of importance in the education system.
Maybe we have it backwards? If we gave our children more time for creativity would it reduce their stress, help them to be more peaceful individuals, and deal with conflict in healthier ways? My heart tells me we are forgetting to put enough value in these areas. After all, if we all learned early on to de-stress and let go through healthy, productive, creative ways wouldn’t our society be much better off?
Food for thought for the weekend J

All this talk about creativity has inspired me to get creative through baking. I love having special home-made baked goods to share on the weekends. It makes the weekend feel just a little more special J
