Pyjamas on, teeth brushed, water, book read x however many kids you have, but there is one more thing to do. I know adding one more thing to the bedtime routine might seem impossible or crazy but this one is worth it I promise.
Every night at bedtime talk about one thing that made you feel happy that day. Sometimes it is the simplest things that mean the most, and just think about how fun it will be to hear your little ones responses. Today it made me happy to see my baby girl reach out and give her big brother a hug.
What a positive way to end the day by talking about something that made you feel happy. I wish I could say I came up with this idea on my own but I didn’t. The editor-in-chief of Body & Soul magazine Alanna Fincke mentions doing this with her family in the December 2009 issue. She in turn got this idea from one of the articles in the magazine.
It is a tradition worth passing on, and you don’t need to have children to do it. Try ending your day with your spouse or loved ones, even over the phone or computer, with one thing that made you feel happy. Who knows one happy thought may be followed by another and another...especially with kids stalling sleep!
Reflecting on happy moments is the perfect way to fall asleep if you ask me. A great way to make everyone feel good at the end no matter what trials the day brought.
What made you or your loved ones feel happy today? If you would like to share I would love to hear your responses.
