Happy February Everyone! I hope this is your best February yet!
The fact that it is already February and January is in the past, it got me thinking how life is short. NOW is the time to be the person you want to be. Make it a priority to work on those changes you want to achieve.
Recently I saw a great idea on Zen Family Habits. If you are unsure what areas you want to work on in your life try making a thank you note to you from your loved ones. What would you want your loved ones to thank you for? If it helps you can make the thank you note to yourself from a particular loved one that is very important in your life.
For example if you are a Mom, you might want to try writing yourself a thank you note from your children. Some particular examples might look something like this:
Thank you Mom for always listening, and trying to understand me.
Thank you for your unconditional love, allowing me to find my own way, and make my own mistakes.
Thank you for being a good role model in my life.
If there is a significant other in your life, try writing yourself a thank you note from them, or from anyone who is important to you. This will give you a list of things you want to achieve in yourself. Taking time to recognize the person we want ourselves to be allows us to focus and make those aspects a priority in our lives. NOW really is the only time.
On some level most of us want to be understood, and feel connected. When making personal decisions try to emphasize doing what feels right to you. Sometimes this is really hard because it may not be the decision you feel those around you would make. Remember it is your life, and it is extremely valuable.
In the end, will you be proud of yourself for making decisions based around what others may think, or for making the decisions that felt right to you in your heart? As well, allow others to make those decisions their own way because it is right for them. We are not the same, and don’t all want the same things out of life. If there is love and happiness in your heart that is what really matters.
Whenever I catch myself judging someone or a situation, I try hard to quickly shut it off. I tell myself I don’t want others to judge the way I live and the decisions I make, that person deserves the same. Just because I wouldn’t make that decision doesn’t mean what I would do or want is right for them. Since becoming aware of those moments it has become easier and easier over time to be the person I want myself to be more of the time.
We are not perfect, and don’t always do everything exactly how we want ourselves to. Sometimes we don’t even realize it until afterwards. Allow yourself forgiveness even for those little moments we let ourselves down. Turn it around and focus on being who you want to be in each moment now, not past and future.
Focusing on the positive is a beautiful thing. If you find yourself judging, you can always say to yourself stop, people deserve better and so do I. What is something positive I can focus my attention on because life is too short for this? Remember to make decisions based on what feels right to you, not what others will think. Be proud of yourself for doing that, and so importantly allow others to do the same. Especially in those moments you disagree. No matter whom the person is, or what they mean to you, you can’t and shouldn’t decide what is right for their life. Remind yourself their life is short too, and incredibly valuable.

Question of the day:
Did you watch the Grammy Awards last night? Was there a particular dress or outfit you really loved?
