Last night after the kids were asleep and I plopped down on the couch to unwind for a few minutes I watched a very sick child with cancer on the show Extreme Makeover Home Edition. Looking at this child’s face you could vividly see the toll cancer had taken on his body. Inside his spirits were bright.
The inspirational mother of this inspirational child expressed how this hardship has allowed them to enjoy the little moments in life when so many others do not. It really hit hard and the tears started flowing, and soon they became more of an ugly cry, as Oprah would say.

After crying and recovering from what felt like a mini heart break, with so much compassion for what this family is going through, and admiration for their mind set, I started to get a little angry with myself. Angry for the moments I waste and all that I often take for granted. Angry for taking one single “one more minute Mommy” for granted.
I believe that if you listen, the universe sends you messages just when you need them. Right now we are going through a little bit of a hectic time which I promise to share more of soon. I have found myself getting stressed over things that in the grand scheme really are not that important. I’m human and it happens. However, the more I am fully aware and conscious of everything from my thoughts to my actions, to the words, actions, and needs of all those around me, the better person I can be.
I want to praise my children 10 times more than I correct their behavior. No matter how frustrating a situation can be, and I’m guessing you fellow parents know exactly what I am talking about; I want to talk to my children in a patient and loving tone. And not just my children and spouse either, I strive to treat everyone with this kind of love and respect.
I know I am not perfect, and I know I will mess up, but I plan to stay in touch with this feeling as best I possibly can, and to be fully conscious as much as I can muster. Thank you universe for sending me a message I so badly needed, and reminding me that 99.9% of the things I get stressed or frustrated over just aren’t worth it!
