Everything builds up and there are those times when you just don’t feel like dealing with one more glass of spilled milk. That is when I realize I am the one letting it get to me. This realization came to me today when I was looking at a pot full of eggs waiting to be peeled.
You see peeling eggs is just not my thing. It doesn’t seem to matter how hot or cold they are, or how fresh or old, I have a really hard time with it. After peeling one egg and being left with the yoke and basically one tiny scrap of egg white I decided I am going to be kind to myself until I shift gears back to where I want to be.
For the rest of the day I am going to give myself a break from the things that frustrate me, and don’t have to be done right now. My body and mind are telling me I need to rejuvenate, and this time I am not going to ignore the message.
I have learned that when I don’t listen more frustrating things seem to happen. I believe a lot of this is because I don’t have the patience or energy left needed to handle things the best way I know how. I strive to handle the small things well because that is often what my day is full of. I am talking about trouble sharing toys, missing the toilet, food on the floor. They are part of the privilege of being a Mom and there is no point in letting them get to you. When you feel yourself struggling with the little things in the day that is a clear signal to stop, take a break, a big couple of breaths, rejuvenate, and re-center.
You, as well as those you love, will be better off for doing this act of kindness for yourself. In an effort to refocus I think it is a great time to write one thing I am grateful for. This may sound sarcastic, but I asure you it is truly sincere:
I am very grateful to be married to a man who loves me, even though I can’t peel eggs, and is unconditionally there for me to fall back on when I need, and help with my missing pieces. His true love is the reason I know he will forgive me for leaving him a plate full of eggs to be peeled when he gets home from work.
It is really quite funny when you think about it! Smiling already J
How do you rejuvenate when your body and mind are signalling you?
