The increased computer time with writing my blog has made me realize I need some serious work on my posture. Lately when I first start using the computer I consciously think about trying to sit up straight and keep my core tight. As the minutes roll by I feel myself slouching further and further. My mind wonders from my original effort.
Sitting up straight is work for my body because my muscles are used to me hunching forward. Once you have re-trained your muscles to hold good posture that becomes their new relaxed position. Getting myself to that point is my new goal.
Children usually start out with good posture because their muscles know that is their optimum position for their bodies. As we age many of us loose that, and to gain it back is now work.
Usually starting off strong and then forgetting is my main obstacle. I also would like to remember to take mini breaks to look around the room to stretch and rest my eyes for a moment. I have heard this is a good thing to try and do at least every 10 minutes for those of you who spend a great deal of time working on your computer.
For me personally I found that I am more efficient with typing my thoughts rather than writing them down. My thoughts come to words faster with the keyboard than with the pen. It is also much easier to edit my mistakes without a bunch of scribbled out lines everywhere. Not having to write things out twice is another benefit.
There is something very special about a pen and paper though that I do miss. Occasionally I like to switch it up when I am feeling tired of the computer. My posture while writing with a pen is not any better, so it is an overall thing I would like to fix.
What do you do to try and maintain your posture throughout the day?
