Let’s get right to it...
The answer is schedule unstructured down time.
That’s right. Do nothing! You might be wondering how doing nothing possibly makes you more productive. We are so trained to think staying busy all the time is being productive, when really our overscheduled lives are burning the candle at both ends, leaving us worn out, burned out and with no time or energy to produce our best work.
Want to be truly inspired? Let the creativity flow through you. Be an open channel. The best way to get the creative juices flowing is to slow down and do nothing. The next time you’re feeling like your life is not going the way you want it to, I’m writing you a prescription to sit by the window with an herbal tea and just be. Let go of everything you ‘should’ be doing. Let go of wanting to improve yourself and be better. Accept yourself right now, right here, in this moment and give yourself a break to daydream.
Dream about the things that make you happy. Think about the small things that bring you joy. I’m not giving you any assignments. You don’t have to write it down or keep a gratitude journal or anything (of course those things are wonderful and I encourage you to do them) but not now. Not while you’re taking a creative vacation to do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.
I think you’ll feel a lot happier and a lot more inspired, if you can take some time to just be in your own company dreaming of all that makes you happy. Who knows? You may even get flooded with ideas, or feel a spark of motivation, but that’s not the important thing. The important thing is that you’ve taken a timeout to connect to your soul. There is no more wonderful gift than that.
With love and warm wishes,
Wendy Irene
