In our house right now there are gifts stashed in many places all over. We have yet to conquer the question of where to hide the gifts so the kids don’t see them. Right now with the children being so young it is not too much of an issue, however I would like to conquer this problem before next year when my son will probably be old enough that he will notice them. We don’t want to spoil anything!
With the gifts we have purchased, plus the ones from family members that don’t live locally we need to find a better system. When I was a child my parents hid the presents in the attic. The only access was through the garage ceiling so there was no way we would accidentally run into them in there. It was a great idea!
We have thought about maybe putting our gifts in the attic next year. In order for that to happen we need to figure out a few things. We one need a latter and two we need to put boards down to support the weight of the gifts. Any suggestions on how to do that would be great! We have no idea. What type of boards work best to support the weight of heavier objects, for example a bike? Do you nail them to the rafters?
The other issue is our only access to the attic is through the kids’ room ceiling. That means we need to get creative in order to be able to get them up there. It might make it difficult to take a few down at a time to wrap in the sporadic times I get a chance. Many of us I think have spent a long evening on Christmas Eve wrapping. It doesn’t take a lot of gifts to take a LONG time to wrap. Ideally for me I would like to have most things wrapped ahead of time to enjoy Christmas Eve evening more. Some late night quiet time with my husband, a fire and drink of some sort would be great.
Right now we have some gifts stored in the garage but it is pretty cold and moist out there, so I would like to find a new place for next time. Plus the kids go in and out of the garage all the time.
It has dawned on me that this is a very nice problem to have. We are so blessed, and the fact that this is even something for us to think about means that we have much more in life than what we simply need. Writing this post makes me feel very grateful!
This is something I think many of us go through. I know some like to store gifts at friends’ houses, which is a great idea. We would prefer to keep the gifts in the house to try and wrap a few at a time as we get the chance.
My question to you is:
Where do you hide your gifts to keep them out of sight? Any creative ideas for me?
